Abstract Black & White Art

I've always loved large black and white abstract paintings. I've been collecting screenshots and pinning different images of black and white abstract art from the Internet. Here are some of my picks. Forgive me for not citing sources. I wasn't even sure why I was collecting these images until I realized I wanted to try my hand at painting one for myself.

Gathering a canvas from A.C. Moore, a wide paint brush and black acrylic paints from Ocean State Job Lot, I got ready for my "masterpiece". I was hoping to do this outside, but with the changeable weather, I had to paint in my office. For added inspiration, I also looked at different types of buildings and architectural lines.  I practiced on some scrap paper before working on the canvas.

I don't necessary love my first attempt on canvas. The abstract reminds me of u-shaped magnets. This was NOT my intention. I'm going to build a frame for the painting, and others that I did, to see if I like them better once they're properly showcased. And I'll continue to share my progress on my blog.

  1. I like it! Perhaps you could do a few small post cards for your friends. Nudge, nudge. I know how you like to play with nice paper too.
