A tomato tart is a perfect dish to bring to a dinner party. It complements any meal, in any season. The real flavor comes from the caramelized onions so any tomatoes will do.  My dear friend, Lori, gave me permission to share her delicious recipe.

Slice about 4 tomatoes.

Grate 1/2 cup Fontina or Gruyere Cheese.

Caramelize the onions.

Spread the caramelized onions on the dough.

Sprinkle 1/2 of the cheese on the onions.

Arrange the tomatoes on top of the cheese.

Drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt & pepper.

Sprinkle with remaining cheese.

Bake at 400 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes.

Cool for 20 minutes, serve warm.

 Tomato Tart

Ingredients Store bought crust (or you can make your own) Olive oil 1/2 cup Fontina cheese, grated (or Gruyere) 1 1/2 lbs. firm, ripe tomatoes (approx. 4) 1 onion or garlic, caramelized Kosher salt & fresh ground pepper, to taste Preheat oven to 400° F. Place dough in tart pan. Chill dough for 30 minutes. Spread caramelized onions or garlic on the dough. Sprinkle with 1/2 of the cheese. Arrange the tomatoes on top of the cheese, in an overlapping circular pattern. Season with salt & pepper. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and drizzle with olive oil. Bake at 400 ° for 45 to 55 minutes until crust is golden brown. Cool for 20 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
